Q. What happens if there’s downtime or an auction pauses?
A. Downtime is an unforeseeable setback that all online sites experience. During such times, users will not be able to place bids in an auction. After the issue is resolved, we may repost the item or extend any time lost to each affected auction so that no users will be left at a disadvantage.
Q. What happens to items that get no bids?
A. It will depend upon the item but options include listing on other sites like BisManOnline or EBay, waiting for a local auction, donating to local charities or a non-profit, sell as scrap or trash it.
Q. What is the profanity policy of the site?
For a pleasant experience on our site, we don't allow using hateful, offensive, profane, or vulgar language in all areas of the website. Make sure your username does not contain hateful, obscene, offensive, racist, sexual, or violent words. If it does, it may be removed, and you may be subject to a range of other actions, including restrictions of your buying privileges and suspension of your account.
Q. When and why does time get added to the end of auction countdown?
A. If a bid is placed within 30 seconds before the auction ends, the auction will be automatically extended this number of seconds. This feature is to protect bidders from snipe type software that would allow someone to set a bid in the last few seconds to win an auction.
Q. Why was an active auction item removed from the site?
A. There may be times when an item should not have been listed for sale; we discovered that the item was not sellable (safety or liability issue); the description is grossly wrong or the item has been claimed by one of our operating facilities.
A. As a Bidder, placing a bid is a binding offer from you to the Seller so the bid cannot be retracted, please use due diligence when placing bids. Once you place a bid, and if you have the winning bid, your offer becomes a binding contract and you are obligated to buy the item at the said price you indicated as your bid.
As a Bidder, you are responsible for any bids placed under your user name and password so use due diligence to protect your password. The security of your user name and password is your responsibility so you will be liable for any and all bids placed under your user name and password. If you feel that your user name and password have been compromised due to lack of security on our site you must immediately notify Surplus MarketPlace by using the Contact Us link.
If you feel that you have a legitimate reason for not buying the item, you can contact Surplus MarketPlace by using the Contact Us link to explain your situation. If you have too many requests to not purchase items you have successfully bid on, you and your account(s) may be suspended from the site.
Q. How do I pay for an item I won?
A. Please view the instructions in this PDF
If you did not receive an email on winning the item, follow the instructions below:
Log into Surplus MarketPlace, click on My Account at the top and from the drop down box select My Account. On the left side you have two options, select Purchases under Invoices and you will get a list of your Purchase(s) or select Bidding - Won. Select the View Invoice button for the item you want to pay for. Select your Shipping Option and review your invoice to make sure everything is correct. In the Payment Options box click the Pay with PayPal button to pay using your PayPal account or as a guest using a credit or debit card.
Q. What is Your Bid/Proxy Bid?
A. The site allows you to place bids two separate ways for items marked as an auction item (not fixed price). The first way is the current bid plus the incremental amount listed on the auction item which will become your bid. The second way is to place a proxy bid which will be the maximum amount you want to bid. Proxy bidding is a very common method for bidding in an online auction. Proxy bidding works when the bidder decides a maximum amount they are willing to pay for it in advance. When you enter a bid amount greater than the current bid plus the incremental amount you have entered a proxy bid. As bids are made by other bidders the system will automatically increases your bid by the pre-specified increments. The proxy bid will keep bidding for you until your maximum proxy bid amount is reached enabling you to win the item at the lowest bid possible. If your proxy bid is outbid you will be notified by email that you were outbid. You can than decide to increase your bid or not to bid. The reason bidders use proxy bids is so that they don't have to continually monitor an auction to win an item.
Q. How do I delete a credit card from My Account?
A. You will need to use the Contact Us button and provide the last four digits of the credit card number you want deleted.
Q. Are there any new items sold on Surplus MarketPlace?
A. All material or equipment is used unless the description or condition states it is new.
Q. Where is the item located that is for sale?
A. Each item has a location listed and it could be located in ND, SD, MT or WY.
Q. How do I pick up the item purchased?
A. If you do not select the shipping option (for smaller packages only) or provide instructions, we will send you an email to advise who to contact to set up a date and time to pick up your item. Normal times are Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, CT.
Q. How do I view Basin Electric's eBay auction store?
A. http://stores.ebay.com/Basin-Electric-Surplus-MarketPlace
A. Where you will be able to make a reasonable offer for the items listed. At the end of the listing the person with the highest reasonable offer will be awarded the item.
